Trial for domestic violence charges against football star Jérôme Boateng starts.
The judge suggested a deal for reconciling with Boateng. If Boateng admitted to what he did, he would only get a warning with a suspended sentence, as the court clerk mentioned. Without a sentence being passed right away, this means Boateng would've been declared guilty but wouldn't face immediate punishment. This type of penalty is basically a form of probationary fine.
After the failed reconciliation, Boateng elaborated on the situation. He confessed to a physical fight with his former partner during their Caribbean vacation in 2018 - the charge of intentional bodily harm, which the prosecutors accused him of, he rejected.
Boateng is currently playing in Italy, and will be moving to Linzer ASK in Austria for the following season. The complaints against Boateng regarding a Caribbean vacation, where a quarrel supposedly happened, consist of fines for bodily harm and slander. Boateng was convicted of these by the Munich Magistrates' Court and the Land Court. However, the most recent decision by the Bavarian Highest Regional Court repealed this verdict, so a new trial is now necessary.
