Karlsruhe Appellate Tribunal - Trial for alleged murderers involved in robbery starts

A trio of suspected robbers from the Netherlands allegedly led a bomb explosion, committed a heavy chain theft, and even murdered someone, according to the prosecution. The trial for these crimes began on Thursday at the Karlsruhe District Court. The 30-year-old driver of the getaway vehicle was accused of causing a deadly accident during his reckless escape - without regard for another potential life lost. The prosecution points to motives of revenge and concealment.

These three young men are facing charges for blowing up an ATM in Wiernsheim near Pforzheim on November 11th of last year. They then rammed a patrol car while trying to escape the police. Next, the 30-year-old is said to have fled on the A6 motorway with a stolen car, resulting in a crash with a small truck. The passenger in the truck tragically passed away a few days later, while the driver of the truck and the arrested 30-year-old sustained severe injuries.

Each defendant is charged with involvement in the ATM blast, complex theft. The 30-year-old faces additional accusations of murder related to the passenger's death and attempted murder due to the serious injuries sustained by the truck driver.

Since the arrest, authorities have traced criminal activities back to the Netherlands following ATM explosions. The defendants have remained silent on the charges before the trial. They are currently in pre-trial detention.
