The trial for a fatal speeding accident in the Bavarian capital begins at Munich District Court on Thursday (10.00 a.m.). The accused is said to have tried to flee from a police checkpoint in July of this year because he was driving without a license.

According to the public prosecutor's office, he was driving at speeds of up to 144 kilometers per hour in the city center, where 50 is permitted. He is said to have lost control of his car and crashed into a streetcar stop at Leonrodplatz. An 18-year-old waiting for the streetcar was hit and killed.

The public prosecutor's office is accusing the accused, who was born in 2001, of, among other things, illegal motor vehicle racing and involuntary manslaughter.
