Before the court appeared the alleged shooter next to his former girlfriend Brenda Uliarte. The 25-year-old is charged as an accomplice and is accused of instigating the attack through text messages. A 29-year-old friend of the ex-couple is also charged.

In the courtroom, the indictment was first read aloud. It contained messages that pointed explicitly to a plan to murder the politician. According to the indictment, Sabag Montiel wrote to his former girlfriend Uliarte: "I will go to Cristina's house with the weapon and shoot her." The indictment states that all parties were "aware of their deal and the possible consequences."

According to Kirchner's attorney, the trial could last between six months and one year. Over 270 witnesses are expected to be called, including the 71-year-old politician herself.

The alleged assassination attempt occurred on September 1, 2022, when the former Vice President Kirchner mixed among a crowd of supporters who had gathered at her house to rally for her in a fraud case. The dramatic incident made headlines around the world.

Three months after the attempted attack, Kirchner was sentenced to six years in prison for corruption and permanently banned from holding public office in a trial. She herself described the proceedings as a political witch hunt and filed an appeal against the verdict.

The left-wing politician Kirchner served as Argentine president from 2007 to 2015. From 2019 to 2023, she held the position of Vice President. She is known as a determined opponent of the incumbent president Javier Milei.
