Starnberg Local Court - Trial against Jens Lehmann begins

Around a year and a half after an alleged attack with a chainsaw on a garage on Lake Starnberg, former national soccer goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is on trial. The trial against him for trespassing and damage to property, among other things, starts today, Friday, at Starnberg District Court.

The public prosecutor's office accuses the 54-year-old of breaking into his neighbor's garage last July with a chainsaw in his hand to cut up a roof beam. He is also alleged to have felled a young birch tree on his neighbor's property. According to the public prosecutor's office, he is said to have cut the cable of a surveillance camera beforehand - so as not to be filmed during the alleged acts.

Lehmann's lawyer Christoph Rückel did not want to comment before the start of the trial when asked, but announced that he would make a statement in the courtroom at the start of the trial. "The allegations made against me are not true," Lehmann wrote on Instagram in the summer after charges were brought against him. "The damage is, as always, the enormous damage to my reputation and the disregard for my privacy." The presumption of innocence applies until the proceedings are concluded.
