Trial against five police officers for fatal shooting of 16-year-old begins
The 16-year-old was hit by several bullets, including in his shoulder, stomach and forearm, during a police operation in August 2022. The teenager, an unaccompanied refugee from Senegal, had been living in a youth welfare facility.
He is said to have attacked the officers with a knife. Despite emergency surgery in hospital, the teenager succumbed to his injuries. Ten more hearings are scheduled until mid-April.

The indictment against the five police officers was presented at the Regional Court in Dortmund. The alleged deadly incident started when the 16-year-old, involved in a altercation, attacked the policemen with a knife. The fatal shooting occurred during a police operation in August 2022. The bodily injury sustained by the 16-year-old, an unaccompanied refugee from Senegal, included hits to his shoulder, stomach, and forearm. The process to determine their guilt is now underway. Despite emergency surgery and efforts to save him, the 16-year-old tragically passed away due to the severe shootings. The hearings in this case will continue for another ten occasions up until mid-April.
