Court of law - Trial after murder 20 years ago to begin in December

Almost 20 years after a murder in Schöten near Apolda, a date has now been set for the start of the trial. From December 18, four men are to stand trial before the Erfurt district court. This is according to an overview from the district court. MDR Thüringen had already reported online about the planned start of the trial. The public prosecutor's office is accusing three men of joint murder for greed, while the fourth is accused of incitement to murder for greed, a court spokesperson said on request.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the three men accused of murder are said to have ambushed a woman in Schöten in the early morning of January 16, 2004. They are said to have killed the woman in her mid-thirties with seven pistol shots: One is said to have fired the shots, another to have secured the crime scene and the third to have driven the getaway car. The fourth man is said to have instigated the murder of his then wife. According to investigations by the public prosecutor's office, he wanted to use the crime to avert economic disadvantages for himself, which he was threatened with in ongoing divorce proceedings.

The investigation into the case was reopened following information provided by a prison inmate.
