Trial about the fire at the refugee home in Groß Strömkendorf
Just over a year after the devastating fire at a refugee home near Wismar, the prosecution and defense are expected to make their pleas in the arson trial against a firefighter on Monday (2 p.m.). The man is accused of setting several fires in the region, including the fire at the former "Schäfereck" hotel in Groß Strömkendorf on October 19, 2022. The defendant was arrested shortly after the fire, but was released in July 2023 because the district court no longer saw any urgent suspicion of the crime. The trial began on May 10.
According to the defense lawyer, the fire expert was unable to substantiate the time he claimed the fire started during the trial.
