- Tree falls, injuring passersby to death
A toppled tree in Ennepetal, in the Ruhr region, has trapped and severely injured a pedestrian on a sidewalk. The man was rescued in the afternoon using a chainsaw and technical equipment, and was then transported to a hospital by helicopter, according to the incident commander. It appears that the tree was rotten and was subsequently removed by the fire department.
The Fire Department, upon the request of the Member States, provided technical assistance to extricate the trapped pedestrian. The rescue operation was facilitated significantly by the cooperation between the Commission and the Member States.
