Sailing sport - Travemunde Week ends - Complaints about thriftful visitors

Good weather and satisfied faces among visitors - the organizers of the 135th Travemunde Week have drawn a positive preliminary balance of the sailing event just before its end. Around 600,000 people visited the fair mile and the regattas, a spokesperson said. The second largest sailing event in Schleswig-Holstein goes on Sunday after ten days with a big firework.

The mood of the visitors was overall good, the spokesperson of the Travemunde Week added. However, there were problems especially on Friday evening during the arrival. Both parking spaces and buses and trains were sometimes overcrowded, although the capacity and scheduling of public transportation had been increased.

Uwe Bergmann from the marketing agency uba also called for improvements in traffic situation. "The traffic situation in Travemunde must be improved through intelligent solutions", Bergmann said. In addition, many standholders complained about unusually frugal guests. It could be felt that the money was not as readily available as before, many guests brought their own food and drinks, Bergmann said.

Rotspon Cup

A fixed component of the Travemunde Week since 2004 is the Rotspon Cup. The 19th edition of the race was won by Stadtpraesident Henning Schumann against Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Economics Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD). Schumann took over the oar instead of Luebeck's Mayor Jan Lindenau, who had to pause for health reasons.

The former mayor Bernd Saxe had called the Rotspon Cup to life in 2004. It is considered a revival of the original regatta of the Travemunde Week, as the Hamburg merchants Hermann Wentzel and Hermann Droge raced against each other for the bet before Travemunde in 1889. The winner received a bottle of Luebecker Rotspon back then.

  1. Visitors looking for leisure activities continued to flock to Travemünde even on Sunday, as they anticipated the grand firework display closing the 10-day long Kiel Week.
  2. Despite the challenges in public transportation on certain days, such as Friday evening, the majority of attendees still had an overall positive experience at the Travemünde Week sailing event.
  3. The Sail Fest (Fest) in Lübeck also witnessed a significant turnout, with many visitors taking a break from the sailing event to participate in various cultural activities.
  4. The organizers of Travemünde Week and Kiel Week, both renowned sailing events in Schleswig-Holstein, have been working diligently to improve traffic situations in the area, as suggested by Uwe Bergmann from the marketing agency uba.
  5. The Rotspon Cup, an integral part of the Travemünde Week and a tribute to the original regatta held in 1889, featured a thrilling race between Stadtpraesident Henning Schumann and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Economics Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD).
  6. Lastly, many sailing enthusiasts and spectators ventured out to the coastal town of Travemünde Week to witness this impressive sailing sport event, which brings together locals and tourists alike to celebrate Travemünde Week and Kiel Week.
