Accidents - Transporter driver overlooks tar construction site on A94

A van driver drove into a tar construction site on the A94 and was seriously injured. The accident happened on Monday afternoon near Dorfen (Erding district) in the direction of Passau, according to the police. The road was completely closed for around two hours afterwards, and the right-hand lane remained unusable for a further two hours. An eight-kilometer-long traffic jam formed, it was reported.

The 48-year-old driver had approached a mobile work site of Isentalautobahn GmbH too quickly. He had overlooked the safety trailer on the right-hand lane, which was being used as a barrier - and eventually swerved onto the right-hand hard shoulder. There was a car and a van with a tar pump trailer there.

Despite emergency braking, the van hit the car and pushed it into the trailer with the tar pump. The car of a 57-year-old woman was hit and damaged by flying vehicle parts. The woman was able to prevent a collision by emergency braking, according to reports. The road then had to be cleaned of tar and spilled fuel. The 48-year-old was taken to hospital.
