Lower Franconia - TransnetBW submits documents for SuedLink route
The electricity grid operator TransnetBW has submitted the planning approval documents to the Federal Network Agency for the section of the planned SuedLink power line in Lower Franconia. The underground cables are to be laid over a length of 115 kilometers from the municipality of Mellrichstadt (district of Rhön-Grabfeld) via Oerlenbach (district of Bad Kissingen) to the municipality of Altertheim (district of Würzburg), according to a spokesperson in Stuttgart on Friday.
The company expects a decision and thus the go-ahead for construction work in spring 2025. At the same time, TransnetBW intends to apply to the Federal Network Agency for early construction measures. This should enable work on rivers and forests to be carried out in preparation for later construction. At the same time, the electricity grid operator announced its intention to hold public events in the affected regions to provide information about the project and the next steps.
The aim of the SuedLink route, which is around 700 kilometers long, is to transport electricity from the wind energy areas in northern Germany to the south. The first electricity is scheduled to flow through the underground cables at the end of 2028. The route is being implemented by the companies Tennet and TransnetBW.
