Matthijs de Ligt (25) and Noussair Mazraoui (26) are on the brink of leaving FC Bayern. The defensive duo is set to join Manchester United in the English Premier League. "It's in the final stages, but I can't say anything new about it. We assume it will go over the stage," said Munich's sporting director Christoph Freund after the 3:0 (1:0) victory of FC Bayern in the last test match before the start of competitive play against WSG Tirol in Unterhaching.

De Ligt is said to bring in a fixed transfer fee of 45 million euros for the German football record champions, Mazraoui 15 million euros. Bonus payments are also said to be added. The two defenders were not in the Munich squad against the Austrians on Tuesday.

De Ligt and Mazraoui were never indispensable

The Dutch national player de Ligt had joined the Bayern two years ago for around 70 million euros in transfer fees from Juventus Turin. The central defender has not established himself as an undisputed starter at the German record champions. Right-back Mazraoui had also joined Munich in the summer of 2022 from Ajax Amsterdam. The Moroccan national player was free of transfer fees at the time, but showed inconsistency in his performances. In Manchester, the duo would meet their former coach at Ajax Amsterdam, Erik ten Hag.

Departing from Bayern, De Ligt and Mazraoui are set to bolster Manchester United's defense in the Premier League. Their previous coach at Ajax Amsterdam, Erik ten Hag, is now managing the Red Devils in England.
