Transat Jacques Vabre: Three starts in sight after storm

In the 16th Transat Jacques Vabre, the race organizers have rescheduled three starts after storms, postponed starts and a week-long holding pattern. Two classes will start their second leg across the Atlantic to Martinique on Monday at 10.30 a.m. (Ocean Fifties) and 10.45 a.m. (Class 40) off Lorient. The young German pros Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink will be taking part, and after finishing 23rd on the sprint leg, they will be aiming for more when they cross the pond.

On Tuesday at 9.30 a.m., the 40 Imocas, who have not yet been challenged at sea, will start off Le Havre. Among them are Boris Herrmann and Will Harris on "Malizia - Seaexplorer", the Munich-born "Macsf" skipper Isabelle Joschke and Andreas Baden from Kiel on the French "Nexans - Art & Fenêtres".

Boris Herrmann, who had spent the week in Hamburg with his family, was already on his way back to Le Havre on Saturday. The 42-year-old said: "Our ship survived the storm in Le Havre, where winds of up to 60 knots were measured, well guarded and undamaged by two of our best crew members. We will now sail on a direct route to Martinique, no longer via the passage of the island off Brazil. I'm very happy about that. The direct route suits me better." The race organizers and teams are expecting tough but manageable starts at the beginning of the week and a challenging first week.

One week after their successful start on October 29, the multihull giants of the Ultim class are the only ones of the four Transat classes to have long been in the race. On Saturday, "Banque Populaire XI" took the lead ahead of "Edmond de Rothschild" and "SVR Lazartigue".

In the rescheduled schedule for the 16th Transat Jacques Vabre, the Ocean Fifties and Class 40 classes will be setting sail for Martinique on Monday, with Sailing being a significant part of their journey. Boris Herrmann, participating in the 40 Imocas category, expresses his excitement for the direct route to Martinique after the storm, highlighting his preparation for Sailing across the pond.
