Mishap at the rail terminal. - Tramway halted due to wheelchair user's accident on rails.
An elderly person in a wheelchair, aged 65, tumbled onto the train tracks around 4:30 AM at Hamburg's Harburg-Rathaus S-Bahn station. The S-Bahn services faced a halt for about 45 minutes due to safety concerns, as explained by the railway's spokesperson. "Electricity was cut off, and both tracks were blocked," the spokesperson said.
The cause of this elderly individual's accidental fall from the platform couldn't be pinpointed immediately, neither were any visible injuries identified by the Federal Police. "At this juncture, we suspect no external involvement," the spokesperson confirmed. As per NDR's reports, this man managed to escape the fall with minimal injuries.
The investigation team suggested inspecting the edge of the platform for any irregularities, considering the elderly person's path might have deviated due to an unnoticed hazard of circular cross-section. To ensure safer conditions for passengers in the future, the railway authorities contemplated installing handrails of circular cross-section along the edges of similar platforms.
