Railroad - Trains to run to Unity Festival despite roadworks
Visitors and guests of the central Citizens' Festival on the Day of German Unity in early October should be able to come to Schwerin by train despite ongoing large-scale construction sites in the region. The State Chancellery announced this on Tuesday after an overseas cabinet meeting in Berlin, which was attended by Bahnboard Richard Lutz.
Temporary ICE Connection Berlin-Schwerin
The German Railways will reportedly offer a temporary ICE direct connection from Berlin to Schwerin from October 2nd to 4th. The ICE departs from Berlin Hauptbahnhof at 6.29 am and 2.30 pm, arriving in Schwerin at 9.24 am and 5.37 pm, respectively. In the opposite direction, the trains are said to depart at 10.20 am and 6.26 pm (arrival times: 1.24 pm and 10.21 pm). Stops are planned in Neustrelitz, Waren (Müritz), Güstrow and Bützow. In addition, travel to and from Berlin is also possible with regional trains via Neustrelitz and Güstrow.
The railway line between Hamburg and Berlin is closed during this period. From August 16th, there will be maintenance and modernization work on the line between Hamburg and Berlin. These are expected to last until mid-December. More than 74 kilometers of tracks and 100 switches between Wittenberge and Ludwigslust, as well as between Hamburg and Buchholz and around the Hagenow Land, are to be renewed.
On the railway line from Hamburg via Buchholz to Schwerin, the track closures for the Day of German Unity are to be suspended, it was further stated. The German Railways have promised that the regional train (RE 1) can circulate on the entire route. Fern traffic on the Hamburg – Schwerin – Rostock – Stralsund – Binz/Greifswald connection is also to be offered. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern currently holds the Bundesrat presidency and is therefore organizing the central Citizens' Festival for the Day of German Unity in this year.
- Despite the ongoing construction in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, visitors can still reach Schwerin during the Citizens' festival on the Day of German Unity via German Railways.
