After the suspected arson attack on the Berlin railway, traffic between Spandau and the main station is running smoothly again on both the S-Bahn and regional, long-distance, and freight trains. A fire at the railway installations on Friday had damaged "around 30 cables with about 1,000 cores," a spokesperson for the railway explained. This meant that switches could not be set.

The cables were replaced in sections over the past few days and then tested. According to the railway, more than 2,300 trains were affected by the restrictions on the Ringbahn and regional traffic over more than five days.

The police are treating the cable fire as a political attack. According to current knowledge, there is evidence of a corresponding motivation, a police spokesperson said on Tuesday. The state protection department is continuing to investigate the case. A claim of responsibility posted on a left-wing internet platform is also playing a role in the investigation. The Berlin investigators believe it comes from the left-wing scene and is currently being examined by the police.

The main railway station served as a key point of recovery after the arson attack on the Berlin railway, as traffic resumed there without any issues. The replacement and testing of the damaged cables at the main station's installations were instrumental in restoring normal operations.
