- Training and Vehicle Hall for Firefighters opened
Regardless of snow or storm: In a new special hall of the State Fire and Civil Protection School in Bad Köstritz (district of Greiz), rescuers can train for deployments year-round. 13.6 million euros were invested in the newly opened building, according to the Infrastructure Ministry.
The hall serves multiple purposes. Several large emergency vehicles can park there simultaneously. The upper floor houses the training hall, where rescuers and future helpers can train on a multi-story practice wall, including special deployment scenarios with turntable ladders. According to previous reports, firefighters can also practice deployments in replicas of parts of chemical and practical labs, an apartment, and a nursing home. Additionally, the hall will be accessible to large vehicles, allowing the use of turntable ladders.
Expansion of the school continues
The state will continue to invest significant funds to comprehensively expand and modernize the State Fire and Civil Protection School. 75.4 million euros are planned for this purpose, according to the Ministry. In a first step, a parking garage will be built. Additionally, a 23 million euro railway training tunnel for realistic disaster scenario training is planned to be built about five kilometers away in Crossen.
Around 4,500 professional and volunteer helpers are trained and further educated at the school each year.
The comprehensive expansion of the school includes plans for improved education and training. The new facilities will include a dedicated area for advanced education and training in emergency scenarios, featuring simulation labs for various environments such as chemical labs, apartments, and nursing homes.
As part of the school's modernization, there will be a focus on providing ongoing education and training in the latest rescue techniques, ensuring that all 4,500 trainees each year are equipped with the necessary skills to handle any situation.
