Train services run according to a thinned-out timetable
Train services in Schleswig-Holstein are currently running according to the thinned-out timetable announced by Deutsche Bahn. A spokeswoman for the company said this on Thursday afternoon. There was relative calm at the otherwise busy station in Kiel. Numerous travelers came to the Deutsche Bahn information desk to find out about their travel options. However, there was no great rush there either.
The one-day warning strike by train drivers had caused disruptions during the morning rush hour in Schleswig-Holstein. Numerous connections were canceled, and on other routes the railroad offered a thinned-out timetable. Those who could, looked for other means of transportation such as the car or stayed at home.
The German Train Drivers' Union (GDL) had called the warning strike, which began at 10 p.m. on Wednesday evening and is scheduled to last until 6 p.m. on Thursday evening. Deutsche Bahn had already warned of serious consequences for rail operations on Wednesday. The GDL and Deutsche Bahn have been negotiating a new collective agreement since last Thursday.
The warning strike by train drivers led to increased tariffs for passengers due to limited train services, as Deutsche Bahn had to offer a thinned-out timetable. Traffic on the roads significantly increased as many passengers opted for personal vehicles instead of train travel.
