Mobility - Train services in southern Bavaria partially suspended due to snow
The persistent snowfall has also significantly affected train services in Bavaria. Since Friday evening, trains in various regions of Bavaria have been delayed or canceled altogether, as announced by Deutsche Bahn on Saturday.
According to the railroad company, Munich's main station will not be accessible all day Saturday. "We can't yet say what the situation will be like over the next few days. We assume that there will still be major restrictions on Sunday," said a Deutsche Bahn spokeswoman. There is no information yet on the extent of the damage.
At the stations in Munich and Ulm, the railroad company set up two trains as heated waiting trains on Saturday night so that passengers did not have to wait in the cold.
The Bayerische Regiobahn completely suspended its train service, which serves the Chiemgau-Inntal, Berchtesgaden-Ruhpolding, Oberland, Ammersee-Altmühltal and Ostallgäu-Lechfeld areas. "Operations have been suspended for Saturday. On Sunday, we will have to see to what extent DB Netz AG reopens the line," said a spokeswoman. Some trees had fallen onto the tracks or torn down overhead lines. There was also no rail replacement service, as bus companies had also suspended operations.
In Lower Bavaria, there were considerable disruptions and train cancellations on the line between Freising and Passau and in the direction of Regensburg main station. Train services on the route from Munich Central Station to Landshut and Passau were suspended. Regional trains ran between Regensburg and Landshut. In Werdenfelser Land in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, there were considerable disruptions from Tutzing onwards.
Train services on the Südostbayernbahn were suspended on all lines by official order until probably Sunday, 2 p.m., according to Deutsche Bahn.
Traffic on the Waldbahn network in the Bavarian Forest had to be completely suspended and the Oberpfalzbahn and the alex were also severely affected, according to the Länderbahn. The Oberpfalzbahn only operated on the lines between Furth im Wald and Schwandorf and between Marktredwitz and Regensburg. Travelers had to expect delays and partial cancellations here as well. The Oberpfalzbahn between Hof and Marktredwitz was not affected by the restrictions. Some of the alex trains terminated in Landshut - Munich Central Station could not be reached.
The transport companies advised against non-urgent travel.
