Train drivers want to strike: Massive train cancellations expected
Rail travelers can also expect numerous train cancellations and delays in Hamburg on Thursday. The German Train Drivers' Union (GDL) has called on train drivers, train attendants, workshop workers and dispatchers to go on a 20-hour warning strike. According to Deutsche Bahn (DB), the Hamburg S-Bahn will be shut down at the start of the strike at 10 p.m. on Wednesday evening. There will already be train cancellations on all lines from 8.00 pm.
On Thursday, the Hamburg S-Bahn, as well as regional and long-distance trains, will operate according to an emergency timetable. According to Deutsche Bahn, passengers can only find out exactly which trains will be running at short notice via the information media of DB and HVV (Hamburger Verkehrsverbund). Commuters should work from home if possible. Hamburger Hochbahn plans to reinforce some subway and bus lines. However, a company spokesperson said that Hochbahn could not even begin to make up for the loss of suburban and regional trains.
Due to the ongoing strike, tariffs for alternative transportation methods, such as taxis or ride-sharing services, might significantly increase in Hamburg. The traffic in the city might also be affected by the train cancellations and delays, leading to potential delays or diversions for motorists.
