Traffic restrictions - Train drivers' union calls another warning strike
The German Train Drivers' Union (GDL) has once again called for warning strikes. From Thursday evening at 10 p.m., large parts of long-distance and regional rail services will once again come to a standstill for 24 hours, as the GDL announced on Wednesday.
Train travelers in Lower Saxony and Bremen will not only have to prepare for cancellations at Deutsche Bahn, but also at the railroads of the Transdev Group, which includes the Nordwestbahn and the Regio-S-Bahn in Hanover. In addition to the wage talks at Deutsche Bahn, the GDL also considers the negotiations with Transdev to have failed.
The GDL last held warning strikes in mid-November and mid-October at Regio-S-Bahn and Nordwestbahn. It was initially unclear on Wednesday evening how the companies would react to the new strike announcements.
According to the union, the Transdev Group had recently submitted a new offer. However, this was "far removed" from the GDL's demands, the union announced on Wednesday. The union then announced that it would extend its warning strikes.
Among other things, the GDL is demanding 555 euros more per month and an inflation compensation bonus. According to the union, the employers' side had offered an eleven percent increase in pay in three stages as well as an inflation compensation bonus. A reduction in working hours is also being discussed.
