Commuters in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania must also be prepared for train cancellations due to the warning strike by the train drivers' union GDL. The warning strike will also lead to massive restrictions in regional transport in the north-east, said a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn (DB) on Wednesday when asked by the German Press Agency. The GDL has called on its members to go on strike from 10 p.m. on Wednesday until 6 p.m. on Thursday.

"From 10 p.m., there will be almost no more journeys on DB's regional services," said the DB spokeswoman. From Thursday morning, some journeys could possibly be offered. However, these would be an emergency offer at best. Information about possible journeys will be provided online in the timetable information service during the course of Wednesday.

According to the railroad company, lines RB11 (Wismar-Rostock-Tessin) and RB12 (Rostock-Rövershagen-Graal-Müritz) as well as the rail replacement service with buses between Warnemünde and Rostock are not affected by the warning strike. Among other things, the tracks on the line will be modernized until the beginning of December.

According to the DB spokeswoman, there may be individual cancellations even before the strike begins. Some trains will be taken out of service in a controlled manner to ensure that they are where they are needed after the end of the strike, she said. According to DB, all trains should be back on schedule by Friday morning.

The warning strike will also have an impact on rail freight traffic, the spokeswoman added. The train drivers of the rail subsidiary DB Cargo have also been called to strike.

The disruptions in train services might cause a significant increase in traffic on local roads, impacting consumers in the region. Additionally, the railroad company may consider imposing tariffs on certain freight services during this period, to offset the losses incurred due to the strike.
