- Tragedy at Central Station: "Gushing of Blood Reaches Germany from the Slayer"
A week post the fatal shootings at Frankfurt's central station, the investigation continues unabated. This was confirmed by the deputy spokesperson of Frankfurt's Public Prosecutor's Office. A 54-year-old individual, residing in Ortenau district of Baden-Württemberg with Turkish citizenship, is believed to have fatally shot a 27-year-old Turkish man with precise headshots at a platform on Tuesday night a week ago. Detectives are following up on leads hinting at a family dispute as a potential motive.
The incident has garnered attention in Turkish media, with varying levels of dismay. Newspaper "Hürriyet" and channel Halk TV, among others, published headlines like "Revenge spills over to Germany." They portrayed it as a vengeance drama between two families, seeking retribution for a murder. However, these reports rely on anonymous sources.
The suspect was apprehended by federal police not long after the incident. A warrant for his arrest on murder charges has been issued.
Such incidents occasionally surface in Turkey.
Vigilante justice in the form of blood feuds dates back centuries and is prevalent in numerous countries globally. In Turkey, for instance, such cases occasionally surface, with some making their way to court as murder cases.
The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. It's believed the suspect fired twice more at the 27-year-old's head while he lay there. The tragedy unfolded near platform 9 in the central station. Following the shooting, the station was temporarily shut down for around 25 minutes due to police operations, disrupting train services and passengers alike. A nighttime ban on carrying weapons has been enforced at the station since June 1st, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
The investigation into the shooting at Frankfurt's main railway station is still ongoing. Despite the closure of the station following the incident, incidents related to weapons are a concern at this major transportation hub.
