Traffic jams and detour expected again due to A8 closure

Anyone traveling on the A8 freeway at the weekend will have to avoid Pforzheim again. This is because construction work is once again underway on the A8 at the Enztal crossing. The navigation system is no help.

Traffic jams and detour expected again due to A8 closure

Due to a planned full closure, drivers will once again have to take detours and plan for miles of traffic jams on the Autobahn 8 near Pforzheim next weekend. As part of the expansion of the heavily used route, work is planned on a bridge on the so-called "Stuttgarter Hang", the southern slope of the Enz valley crossing. Work will also be carried out on the "Karlsruher Hang" in the north of the Enz valley crossing, where work will be carried out on the asphalt and the embankment, as announced by Autobahn GmbH.

The closure on both sides between Friday evening (20:00) and Monday morning (05:00) will affect the stretch between the Pforzheim-Nord and Pforzheim-Süd exits. For this reason, the Pforzheim-Ost slip road cannot be used either.

During the full closure, the route to Stuttgart will be via the official detour routes U7a and U9 from the Pforzheim-Nord exit. For detour in the direction of Karlsruhe, the official detour routes U26a and U28 are indicated. "Interregional traffic between the Leonberg interchange and the Walldorf interchange will be diverted via the A81 and A6," Autobahn GmbH also announced. The reason for the construction work is once again the expansion of the road to a six-lane highway between the south and north junctions ("Enztalquerung").

Autobahn GmbH appealed to all motorists "to stick to the designated detour and not to follow the route recommendations of navigation systems". During the last major closure, some truck drivers had not used the posted detour routes but had followed their navigation systems - with the result that they ended up in Pforzheim city traffic.

Due to the ongoing construction on the A8, drivers may encounter significant traffic delays and detours during the closure. The planned work on the bridge and asphalt on both the "Stuttgarter Hang" and "Karlsruher Hang" is expected to contribute to increased traffic congestion.
