The Education and Science Union (GEW) will look ahead to the new school year in Lower Saxony at a press conference in Hannover on Thursday at 10:30 AM. GEW state chairman Stefan Störmer will provide an assessment of the situation in the schools.

Next Monday, hundreds of thousands of students will begin the new school year in the federal state. The union has around 30,000 members in Lower Saxony.

As of July 22, according to the Ministry of Culture, approximately 1,200 out of 1,467 advertised teaching positions had been filled. The ministry described this as a good figure and expressed confidence that more positions would be filled in the coming days. The hiring process will continue even after the start of school, it was announced.

At the press conference in Hannover, GEW will discuss the upcoming school year in The Hanover, which is part of Lower Saxony. The Union's members in The Hanover, including schools and universities, are eagerly anticipating the start of the new school year.
