Trade union calls for "education strike day"
The Education and Science Union is today calling on nursery school teachers, teachers, social workers and university staff employed by the federal states to take part in the "Education Strike Day". The aim is to increase pressure in the negotiations for a new collective agreement for state employees.
In Saxony-Anhalt, the GEW has called on its members within the scope of the collective agreement of the federal states as well as student employees at universities and research institutions in Halle and Dessau-Roßlau and in the districts of Anhalt-Bitterfeld, Burgenlandkreis, Mansfeld-Südharz, Saalekreis and Wittenberg to take part in a day-long walkout.
The GEW Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia want to organize a joint rally in Leipzig. Around 1000 participants are expected from Saxony-Anhalt, a union spokeswoman said on Monday.
The unions want a 10.5 percent pay rise for state employees, but at least 500 euros more per month. They are also demanding a collective agreement for all student employees. The collective agreement is to run for one year.
Today's Education and Science Union proposal encourages nursery school teachers, teachers, social workers, and university staff in federal states to participate in demonstrations, contributing to the "Education Strike Day". The goal is to amplify the influence in negotiations for a new collective agreement, focusing on improved wages and benefits for state employees, as well as the inclusion of a collective agreement for student employees.
