Bremerhaven - Tractor protests lead to traffic obstructions
Tractor protests against the German government's austerity plans caused traffic disruptions in Bremerhaven on Monday. Several dozen tractors were driven through the city from around 5 p.m. until shortly after 8 p.m. - sometimes at low speed, the police said. One participant in the convoys had announced a spontaneous demonstration. The aim was to show solidarity with the farmers who had organized a large demonstration in Berlin on Monday.
Thousands had protested in the capital against the planned abolition of agricultural tax breaks. The traffic light coalition had recently presented plans to abolish regulations on agricultural diesel and motor vehicle tax exemptions in order to save money in the federal budget.
