- Tractor accident with 15 injured - Investigation of driver
Following a severe tractor accident involving 15 injuries in Middle Franconia, police are investigating the driver. The 29-year-old is suspected of causing dangerous bodily harm in a traffic accident, according to a spokesperson for the Middle Franconia police headquarters.
The young man and an 18-year-old on a trailer attached to the tractor were seriously injured. A 26-year-old passenger sustained life-threatening injuries in the Sunday accident in Hartenstein (Nuremberg Land district). His condition remains critical. Twelve others on the trailer were lightly injured. The group was reportedly on their way to a church festival in the area.
Cause of the accident still unknown
The driver was not believed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, but no test results have been released yet. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. A forensic expert has been appointed by the public prosecutor's office to determine the course of events.
The tractor reportedly veered off the road in a curve and overturned several times. The vehicle was traveling on an "unpaved, tarred path," according to reports. Whether the road played a role in the accident is also part of the investigation.
Large deployment of rescue forces
A large contingent of firefighters, police, and emergency services were deployed on Sunday. A crisis intervention team was on hand to support those injured, some of whom were in shock. Three seriously injured individuals were airlifted to hospitals, while ten lightly injured ones were taken by ambulance.
The accident occurred on Sunday during their trip to a church festival. Despite investigations, the exact cause of the tractor accident on the unpaved, tarred path on Sunday is yet to be determined.
