Cycling - Track bike sprinter Friedrich celebrates double victory in Grenchen

Track cycling sprinter Lea Sophie Friedrich from Cottbus has celebrated a double victory at the top-class international "Track Cycling Challenge" in Grenchen, Switzerland. Following her success in the sprint event, the eight-time world champion also won the keirin final on Saturday evening. Friedrich came out on top ahead of Hetty van der Wouw from the Netherlands and Mathilde Gros from France. Emma Hinze from Cottbus finished in fifth place.

"I'm basically very happy with my weekend. I haven't had much specific track training for sprint and keirin, but it was a really good performance. I'm also very happy with my tactics, I didn't make any big mistakes. I can build on that for the upcoming European Championships," said Friedrich. The European Championships in Apeldoorn (January 10 to 14) also mark the start of the second part of the qualification process for the Olympic Games in Paris.
