Toyota announces the recall of 145,000 large SUV models due to a faulty airbag issue.

Problem with Driver's Side Airbag Deployment on Certain Crashes: A Warning from Toyota

As per Toyota's announcement made on Thursday, there might be an issue with the deployment of the driver's side airbag during specific collisions if the window on that side is down. Toyota failed to detail the specific circumstances that may cause this problem.

During a crash or rollover, side curtain airbags inflate to cover the side window area. They help prevent the occupant from colliding with the window glass or door parts. In the event of a rollover, they can prevent an occupant's arm, shoulder, or head from touching the ground and even keep someone from being ejected from the vehicle.

Both the Lexus TX and Toyota Grand Highlander, fresh models released last year, share similarities. They are both large crossovers, or SUVs with a car-like feel, featuring three rows of seats. They are manufactured at the Princeton, Indiana, Toyota factory.

Toyota is working on a solution to address this issue, as stated in their announcement. The automaker plans to notify owners via a recall by mid-August.
