Toy weapon triggers police operation
A toy gun has worried citizens in Trier and triggered a police operation. As the officers announced on Sunday evening, witnesses observed several people handling a "firearm-like object" at a petrol station in the afternoon. The witnesses alerted the police. They checked the observations and determined that the suspicious object was merely a toy weapon.
The police then strongly advised against handling weapons in public - "even if they are only toys and especially in view of the upcoming carnival". In case of doubt, a real firearm should always be assumed, as this could lead to a larger police operation.
The incident served as a reminder of the importance of reporting potential emergencies to authorities. In the future, misinterpretations of harmless objects could lead to unnecessary emergencies.
