Toy industry hopes for Christmas business despite crises

Despite the mood of crisis, the toy industry is hopeful about Christmas business. "Consumer restraint is not stopping at our industry," said Ulrich Brobeil from the German Toy Industry Association on Monday. This year will undoubtedly be challenging. Manufacturers and retailers plan to present sales forecasts for the current year and an outlook for 2024 at a press conference in Nuremberg today.

After the corona boom, the industry is now experiencing a normalization, Brobeil explained. According to the German Toy Retail Association, people in Germany spent 4.7 billion euros on toys last year - not as much as in the coronavirus era, but still as much as in the strong year of 2020. However, according to market researchers, sales have recently declined slightly.

Nevertheless, the toy industry believes that Christmas business could be good. November and December are traditionally the most important months of the year for them, when they generate a large proportion of their sales.

The toy manufacturers and retailers are preparing to present their sales forecasts for the current year and an outlook for 2024, highlighting their hope for strong Christmas sales. Regardless of the recent slight decline in toy sales, numerous toys still make up a significant portion of holiday purchases.
