Basketball - Towers have to admit defeat again in the Eurocup

Veolia Towers Hamburg still have to wait for their first home win in the Eurocup this season. At the start of the second round, the German basketball club lost 83:97 (35:52) to the Ukrainian club Prometey Slobozhanske in the Inselparkhalle on Tuesday evening and conceded its ninth defeat in its tenth group game. The team of Head Coach Benka Barloschky is thus moving further and further away from reaching the round of 16 again. The hosts' best scorers were Lukas Meisner and William Christmas with 16 points each.

The game was evenly poised in the opening minutes. Christmas gave the Towers their first lead - and their only one of the game - with a free throw to make it 5:4. Prometey proved to be the more effective team as the game progressed and extended its lead to 19 points shortly before the break.

Hamburg got into the game better in the second half and actually created a brief spell of tension in the final period when Vincent King drained a three to cut the deficit to 81:88 with around two-and-a-half minutes remaining. However, that was as close as his team got.
