summer vacation - Tourist traffic causes traffic jams in the north

Status on German Autobahns in North Germany: With Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, the last two federal states have started their summer holidays over the weekend. Holidaymakers are heading to the coasts or returning home, resulting in heavy traffic towards the north and south. Day-trippers are also on the move in the north all weekend long. Construction sites around Hamburg and Osnabrück cause additional traffic jams. Furthermore, several accidents have disrupted the traffic.

In the further progression of the A7 towards the north, traffic jammed between the Walsrode interchange and the Soltau-Ost exit as early as mid-morning on six kilometers, on Saturday it was even 19 kilometers long. Between the Thieshope and Egestorf interchanges, vehicles were at a standstill for about three kilometers in length. According to ADAC, traffic can get congested everywhere around the larger agglomerations such as Bremen, Hannover, Osnabrück and Hamburg. The automobile club had already warned beforehand of one of the worst traffic weekends of the season on the autobahns. Smaller access roads to the coasts and other water destinations can also become congested. Furthermore, travelers planning to go to Kiel, the bathing resorts on the Förde, or to the cruise ships and Scandinavian ferries should plan significantly more time. Those who do not want to spend long hours in traffic jams are advised to start their vacation rather during the week, between Tuesday and Thursday.
