Tourism industry wants to increase acceptance among the population

The tourism industry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern wants to polish up its tarnished image among residents. The industry association intends to present proposals for this at the State Tourism Day, which begins on Thursday (2 p.m.) in Rostock. Suggestions have already been collected in a broad-based public dialog. A ten-point catalog of measures is now to be presented to Minister of Economic Affairs Reinhard Meyer (SPD).

The implementation of these demands should not only promote tourism, but also noticeably improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The aim is to make tourism development more transparent for everyone and to enable citizens to help shape it. Employees in restaurants, hotels and leisure facilities should be offered work with fair conditions and prospects.

A representative survey recently showed that the tourism industry is held in low esteem in the country itself. According to the association, around 160,000 people in the north-east live directly or indirectly from this sector, which is one of the main economic pillars of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The association believes that enhancing the tourism industry's image can significantly contribute to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's economic policy. To achieve this, they plan to propose measures at the State Tourism Day, aiming to improve the quality of life for residents and make tourism development more inclusive.
