Hospitality industry - Tourism industry satisfied with year-end business

The Rhineland-Palatinate tourism industry is satisfied with business in 2023 and with a view to the end of the year. The booking behavior of guests for the holidays and the turn of the year is good, said the Managing Director of Rheinland-Pfalz Tourismus GmbH, Stefan Zindler, to the German Press Agency.

"We are not far off the pre-corona level in terms of overnight stays and guest arrivals." The managing director emphasized that this development is all the more significant given that only around 60 percent of the tourism industry's capacities in the Ahr Valley, which was affected by the flood disaster, can be used again.

The Christmas markets in Rhineland-Palatinate are currently a major attraction. The Christmas vacations are being spent more frequently in the state again this year, reported Zindler. This trend is also having a positive effect on the industry.

From January to October, Rhineland-Palatinate's accommodation providers counted 7.6 million guests, 8.6 percent more than in the same period last year. The number of overnight stays rose by 5.6 percent to 19.9 million. Despite the increase, the pre-corona level has not yet been reached, according to the State Statistical Office. The number of guests in the state was 5.3 percent lower. Overnight stays fell short of the 2019 level by 2.9 percent.
