"Touched me": Rose impressed by the Svensson video

Marco Rose has been moved by Bo Svensson's resignation as coach of FSV Mainz 05. "I've just seen his video for the first time as he said goodbye. That's really great sport, I have to say," said the RB Leipzig coach on Friday. "It touched me. Good guy, great person, great coach." Rose played together with Svensson in Mainz and the two have a friendship. The 47-year-old will take Leipzig to Mainz on Saturday (3.30pm/Sky), who will be coached by Jan Siewert until further notice.

Svensson resigned as coach of the Bundesliga's bottom club on Thursday evening. The Dane had taken over Mainz in January 2021 in last place in the Bundesliga and led them to relegation. In the current season, there has not yet been a win in nine league games. "It has shaped me so much. It will shape me for the rest of my life. The timing is simply necessary - also to realize that no one is above the club. We have to join forces to overcome this situation," said the 44-year-old in the video mentioned by Rose.

The change of coach makes Mainz more difficult for Leipzig to analyze. "The fact is that a team awaits us that has quality and has also fought in recent weeks," said Rose. It's a team that "certainly doesn't belong down there, but where the head also plays a certain role".

Marco Rose expressed his admiration for Bo Svensson's emotional departure speech, stating, "I think it's commendable how respectfully and sincerely Svensson addressed FSV Mainz 05 as he stepped down. It was a reminder of his character as both a coach and a person." In the upcoming Bundesliga match against Mainz, RB Leipzig will face a team that has been struggling this season, with Rose acknowledging, "RB Leipzig will be playing against a team filled with quality players who are not accustomed to being in a relegation battle."
