Finances - Too much funding for fish ladder: money reclaimed
Thanks to the intervention of the State Court of Auditors, some overpaid subsidies from taxpayers' money have been returned to the North Rhine-Westphalian state coffers. In its latest report, the State Court of Auditors expresses its satisfaction with the results of its recommendations from the 2021 annual reports. The changes initiated in administrative action have led to concrete revenue for the state, the Court of Audit announced in Düsseldorf on Tuesday.
One example is the redistribution of costs for a so-called fish ladder at a dam. Originally, the state had funded the fish ladder with around 6.7 million euros. In the opinion of the Court of Audit, however, an energy company that operates a hydroelectric power plant at the dam had not been sufficiently involved in the costs.
Following a further audit, the NRW Ministry of the Environment agreed with the view that the energy company, as the operator of the hydropower plant, should bear the costs of an investigation into fish migration amounting to just under 100,000 euros. After offsetting against other amounts, a recovery and interest notice of just under 70,000 euros was finally issued.
In addition, the reorientation of the content of a funding program for social work in schools initiated by the LRH has already resulted in income of around 2.3 million euros due to claims for repayment by the state to grant recipients.
