Process - Tons of cocaine smuggled: Verdict expected in Limburg
After nine months of trial, the verdict against two suspected drug traffickers is expected in Limburg on Monday (11.00). The accused are alleged to have brought a total of over four tons of cocaine from South America to Europe, mainly to Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. They are accused before the district court of having acted as members of a criminal organization in various ways.
According to a court spokesperson, the public prosecutor is demanding a prison sentence of 14 years and three months for the 49-year-old main defendant as well as the confiscation of 570,000 euros. The defense pleaded for acquittal. The other defendant, aged 68, is to go to prison for five and a half years according to the public prosecutor's office, while the defense pleaded for a sentence of between four years and nine months and five and a half years.
