Football Star Toni Kroos Receives Order of Merit of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Following the conclusion of his successful career, Toni Kroos has been awarded the Order of Merit of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The 34-year-old has already accepted the proposal made by Minister President Manuela Schwesig (SPD). Kroos hails from Greifswald and played football for FC Hansa Rostock in his youth. The award will be presented in his hometown.
"Toni Kroos is one of the most successful German footballers of all time and also one of the best ambassadors of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern worldwide," said Schwesig. "He made his football career in Leverkusen, Munich, and Madrid, but he never forgot where he comes from."
The 2014 World Cup winner ended his career this summer after winning the Champions League with Real Madrid and participating in the Euros with the German national team. "I'm very happy to receive this special award, especially because it's not just based on sporting achievements. It was always important to me not to be just a footballer," said Kroos. The former Bayern player was also recently voted Footballer of the Year.
Toni Kroos' significant contributions to football and his deep connection to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern were noted by Minister President Schwesig, making him an ideal candidate for the Order of Merit of the state. The recognition of Kroos' accomplishments and commitment to his hometown further solidifies his status as a well-respected and renowned ambassador for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern beyond its borders.
