Awards - Tóibín receives Würth Prize for European Literature

The Irish writer Colm Tóibín has been awarded the Würth Prize for European Literature. He will receive the 25,000 euro award from the foundation of the same name "for his art of portraying people in novels and stories as well as for the lucid literary interpretations of his essays and lectures", as the jury announced on Friday in Künzelsau (Hohenlohe district). The author is one of the great European storytellers of his time. Tóibín is considered one of the most important Irish authors of the present day. The award ceremony is planned for early summer 2024.

Tóibín's novel "Brooklyn" was adapted into an Oscar-nominated film. As a screenwriter, he wrote the script for the feature film "Return to Montauk" with Volker Schlöndorff. Most recently, he published the novel "The Magician", in which he traces the life of Thomas Mann.
