How I solved today's Strands

I find the word DRAW and that's a non-theme word. Looking for other words, but unfortunately, no "mountain" there. However, I find BADLANDS, which is a national park! I'll look for others.

Actually, I'll look for the spangram since I have a feeling about what it'll be. And there it is: NATIONALPARKS.

REDWOOD is in the upper left corner.

ARCHES fits the remaining space up top.

GLACIER occupies the bottom right corner.

And lastly, SAGUARO.

How to play Strands

The Strands game can be found on the New York Times website or in the NYT Games app.

When you start playing, you'll see a game board with letters surrounding a clue that hints at the theme (such as "Surprisingly strong"). Your goal is to find words on the board that are related to the puzzle's theme.

Strands: A unique blend of word search and crossword

The spangram, a word that encapsulates the puzzle's theme, is the most significant word to find. For example, if the theme is "Surprisingly strong," the spangram would be JUMPSTART. This word will span the entire game board, either horizontally or vertically. Once you find the spangram, it will be highlighted in yellow. Finding the spangram generally makes it much easier to solve the rest of the puzzle.

In Strands, words can go in any direction (up, down, left, right, and diagonal). Each letter can only be used once. There is only one correct solution. When you correctly identify one of the puzzle's words (such as COFFEE or GRAIN), it will be highlighted in blue.

If you're having trouble solving the puzzle, you can submit any non-theme words (as long as they are at least four letters long) to earn a hint. After submitting three non-theme words, the "Hint" button will be clickable. If you click it, some of the letters in one of the theme words will be highlighted for you. However, you'll still need to connect these highlighted letters in the correct order to create one of the theme words. If a hint has already been given, and you use another hint before solving that word, the word's letter order will be revealed.

How to win Strands

Unlike Connections and Wordle, you can't lose at Strands. When you submit guesses, you'll either correctly guess a word, earn a hint, or watch the words shake back and forth, indicating that the word you submitted is too short or invalid. You can't be left out. There is no time limit.

You win when you've used all the letters on the board to correctly identify the spangram and all the theme words. As with other NYT games, once you've solved the puzzle, you'll see a shareable card that shows your performance for the day: blue dots 🔵 indicate theme words you found, the yellow dot 🟡 indicates the spangram, and a lightbulb 💡 indicates words for which you received a hint.
