TV Chef - Tim Maezler about sudden death of his father: 'Sometimes nature is a bastard'

Famous TV chef Tim Mälzer, known from "Kitchen Impossible", openly spoke about his unexpected father's death, Rainer Mälzer, in the NDR talkshow "deep and clear" last year. In an emotional discussion, Mälzer expressed his feelings directly: "Sometimes nature is a bastard."

In the latest talk show episode, moderated by Aminata Belli and Aurel Mertz, besides the 53-year-old TV chef, influencers Ina and Vanessa, known as "coupleontour", were also guests. They reported on Ina's stroke she suffered in summer 2022 – only a few days before Vanessa gave birth to their common daughter. The fate of the two women moved not only their followers, but also Mälzer wanted to join the conversation.

When Vanessa explained that no one can be blamed for illnesses, Mälzer expressed relief about the lack of clear explanation for his father's sudden death. He said: "That's really satisfying. My father died last year, very suddenly. And I'm really glad he died suddenly, without there being an explanation. I don't have to look for any reason, whether I could have prevented it or could have done something. No, sometimes nature is a bastard. And that was the case at that moment."

"Things are just the way they are"

This uncertainty seems to have helped Tim Mälzer accept the loss better: "I don't have to look for any reason, whether I could have prevented it or could have done something," he added. But he had to admit that it's not always that simple.

The TV chef, who usually exerts control in the kitchen, emphasized the importance of accepting things we cannot control. He finds comfort in the fact that "there's no one to blame" and that "things are just the way they are". His open conversation received much recognition and applause from the studio audience and viewers at home. The entire show is available in the ARD Mediathek.

Aminata Belli and Aurel Mertz, the co-moderators of the talk show, were impressed by Tim Mälzer's ability to accept his father's sudden death without seeking an explanation, citing him as an example of a man who understands that "there's no one to blame" and that "things are just the way they are." Meanwhile, Aurel expressed his admiration for Aminata, noting that she's a strong woman who has handled her own personal challenges with grace and resilience. Unfortunately, a disruptive participant in the audience interrupts the flow of the conversation, labeling Tim an "asshole" for his comments about his father's death. Undeterred, Tim and Aminata continue their discussion, emphasizing the importance of empathy and understanding in difficult situations.
