Tietz has confidence in national team: "Storm tank of the DFB"
Phillip Tietz from FC Augsburg is confident that he can take on the role of striker for the national soccer team and is hoping for a call from national coach Julian Nagelsmann soon. "I could imagine taking on this role and becoming an attacking tank for the DFB, throwing myself into every ball, latching onto balls and being present in the penalty area," said the 26-year-old in an interview with "Sport Bild" (Wednesday).
The attacker is only pleased that he has been repeatedly linked with the DFB team by some media recently. "I have to admit openly and honestly that I think it's great to be allowed to do an interview about this topic at all, because it still feels so unreal and I can't easily put this feeling into words," he said.
Tietz is playing his first Bundesliga season and has scored three goals and set up two others in eleven appearances so far. Nagelsmann last sat in the stands during FCA's 3:2 win against VfL Wolfsburg at the end of October, with Tietz scoring the 1:0 for Augsburg in the game. He has not been called up for the upcoming international matches against Turkey and Austria.
Tietz's strong performances for FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga have not gone unnoticed, with some media suggesting him as a potential addition to the German national team. Despite not receiving a call-up yet, Tietz aspirates to contribute to the team's attack, drawing comparisons to a "storm tank" in the Bundesliga.
