Household - Thuringia's expenditure reduced to 13.5 billion euros

Thuringia will spend 212 million euros less in the coming year than planned by the red-red-green state government. The volume of the budget will fall to exactly 13.54 billion euros due to savings compared to the government draft, said the chairman of the budget committee, Volker Emde, on Wednesday in the state parliament in Erfurt. Parliament is expected to approve the budget, which has long been controversial, late on Wednesday evening.

This was preceded by a compromise between the Left Party, SPD and Greens and the opposition CDU parliamentary group, which led to the cuts. The CDU is also demanding changes to Thuringia's refugee policy. The red-red-green coalition does not have its own majority in the state parliament and is four votes short. It is therefore dependent on compromises with the CDU.

According to Emde, the committee received a total of 607 amendments from the coalition and opposition. As demanded by the CDU, fewer new jobs are to be created in the state service in the coming year than planned by the government. Instead of 220 new posts, only 100 are planned in the budget, which the committee recommends be approved, said Emde.

In the compromise between the Left Party, SPD, Greens, and the CDU parliamentary group, Thuringia's budget was reduced, resulting in a decrease of 212 million euros from the initial plan. The CDU, being part of the opposition, also pushed for changes in Thuringia's refugee policy, as the red-red-green coalition lacks a majority in the state parliament and relies on such compromises.

During deliberations in the state parliament in Erfurt, the CDU's demand for fewer new jobs in the state service was implemented, reducing the number of planned posts from 220 to 100, according to Volker Emde, the budget committee chairman.
