Thuringian Teachers' Association: Tim Reukauf is the new chairman
Ethics teacher Tim Reukauf has been elected as the new chairman of the Thuringian Teachers' Association. The 32-year-old received 83 votes out of 89 cast at a state delegates' conference in Zeulenroda-Triebes (Greiz district), according to a spokeswoman for the Thuringian Teachers' Association (tlv) on Friday. Six ballot papers had no cross at all - according to the association's election regulations, these count as votes against.
Reukauf was previously spokesperson for the young tlv and is now taking over the chairmanship from Frank Fritze, who was in office on an interim basis because the long-standing tlv head Rolf Busch had resigned for health reasons. Reukauf is a secondary school teacher of ethics, economics and law.
He is aware that he has big shoes to fill, said Reukauf in a statement. "I will do my best to ensure that we continue to be the strong voice for better education in Thuringia," said the new chairperson.
Jessica Aniol, a secondary school teacher in Weimar, and Eddy Helms, a regular school teacher in Ilmenau, were elected as deputy chairpersons. The delegates also amended the association's statutes. In future, the spokesperson of the young tlv will automatically be one of the deputy chairpersons. As a result of the amendment to the statutes, Laura Lachmann has therefore moved up to the management level of the tlv.
According to the association, there are 15 district associations in Thuringia that represent the interests of the tlv's more than 3,000 members.
Tim Reukauf, as the new chairman of the Thuringian Teachers' Associations, will work closely with associated teacher organizations to advocate for improved education in Thuringia. Furthermore, Jessica Aniol and Eddy Helms, both elected as deputy chairpersons, will contribute their perspectives from secondary and regular schools to this collaborative effort.
