Thuringian retailers take a cautious view of Black Friday

Thuringian retailers are taking a cautious view of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday discount days this year. The reluctance to spend will probably also have an impact on the two days, said Knut Bernsen, Managing Director of the Thuringian Retail Association, to the German Press Agency. The sales forecast for Thuringia is in the same range as the nationwide forecasts.

The German Retail Association assumes that consumers will spend around three percent more on the two campaign days this year than last year. At 5.8 billion euros, the forecast spending is well above the pre-corona level - but increases of 20 percent, such as from 2021 to 2022, are a long way off.

This year, Black Friday falls on November 24 and Cyber Monday on November 27. However, it has become customary for retailers to entice customers with special offers in the days and weeks leading up to the respective dates.

Despite the predicted increase in consumer spending for Black Friday and Cyber Monday nationwide, Thuringian retailers remain cautious about these discount days. Their reservations may affect the sales during these periods, aligning with the overall sales forecast for Thuringia.
