Household - Thuringia wants to extend loan repayments
Thuringia wants to extend the repayment of its loans. A bill proposed by the Left, SPD and Green parliamentary groups provides for Thuringia to take 15 years instead of the previous 8 years to repay loans. It was discussed in the Thuringian state parliament on Thursday and referred to the Budget and Finance Committee. The draft could still be passed in December.
The Left Party finance politician Ronald Hande argued that other federal states had significantly longer repayment periods in some cases. CDU MP Mai Kowalleck warned that the extension was not a panacea. We have an obligation to the next generation. The aim must therefore continue to be rapid repayment.
FDP group spokesperson Thomas Kemmerich said that Thuringia did not have a revenue problem, but a spending problem. The budget for 2024 had assumed an "indecent volume". AfD MP Torben Braga called the budget planned so far for the coming year an "election campaign budget". There is a lack of money and now the state government wants to save on repayments. "What is being proposed here is irresponsible," said Braga.
