Firm command - Thuringia experienced a lesser impact in terms of environmental damage.
Even with weather alerts and local flooding, Thuringia managed to get through the weekend relatively unharmed, as per Environment Minister Bernhard Stengele from the Greens. He remarked on Monday, "We're fortunate that, unlike early predictions, Thuringia wasn't hit as hard by water masses as initially anticipated." In numerous areas, far worse could've been averted.
Stengele stressed the significance of preparedness and alertness for local communities in Thuringia, as well as the camaraderie of citizens. Moreover, he reaffirmed his push for obligatory insurance for natural disasters, an issue that will be addressed during this week's environmental ministers' meeting. Additionally, he requested the federal government remedy its funding cuts for flood prevention.
The weekend witnessed heavy storms with powerful rainfall in Thuringia. Some rivers exceeded their banks, and basements were flooded with water. Although no casualties were reported, unlike in Bavaria, the devastation was still quite severe.
